Identification:
Horse flies vary in length from about ½ to 1 ¼ inches long, are black to gray in color and have large, vibrant bright green eyes. Their wings usually are clear or have a cloudy appearance.
Venom:
Non-Venomous, but can deliver a painful bite.
Habitat:
Horse flies breed near freshwater and saltwater areas and streams. Females will lay their eggs on the wet soil or on plants near the water.
